Hambleden – heart of the Chiltern Hills

Buckinghamshire is situated just half an hour from central London and easily accessed by both road and rail. Within a stone’s throw of the nation’s capital you can be walking the gently rolling Chiltern Hills, rambling through the county’s famous beech woods like Burnham Beeches, or strolling along The Thames Path at Marlow in no time at all!

Or maybe history and heritage take your interest – why not visit the Rothschild treasure house at Waddesdon, just one of a number of properties in Buckinghamshire which is preserved by the National Trust, or find out about the area’s architectural and social history at Chiltern Open Air Museum at Chalfont St. Giles.

And there’s something for the family too at Bekonscot, the oldest model village in the world, and for fun-lovers and bookworms alike the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery in Aylesbury is a must!! If it’s adventure you are looking for then go no further than Milton Keynes in the north of the county, not only renowned for its shopping facilities but also home of Xscape, Europe’s largest skiing and leisure complex. Talking of shopping you will absorb the atmosphere whilst visiting one of the smaller towns, often boasting many special interest shops – look no further than Amersham, Marlow or Stony Stratford.

Buckinghamshire, or ‘leafy Bucks’ as it is locally known, is the ideal destination for ‘a day out of town’ or why not make a weekend of it exploring the county’s hidden gems – whatever you chose you can rely on a warm welcome!
